Miami: Aryna Sabalenka, who returned to the court for the second time in as many days after her ex-boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov appeared to have taken his own life, had a trying and emotional week that ended on Saturday with a 6-4 1-6 6-1 loss to Anhelina Kalinina.
The world number two seemed to have nothing left in the tank physically, intellectually, or emotionally for a late-night Stadium court battle with Ukrainian Kalinina after an incredible second-round victory on Friday against close friend Paula Badosa.
The 25-year-old Belarusian bent her head, took a few steps, then lost her cool and smashed her racket to bits at center court to give Kalinina the victory after her return wide.
After smashing her racket, MIAMI: Without shaking the Ukrainian's hand, Ary turned and left the court. Playing on major platforms against these elite players is never easy, Kalinina admitted. "Today was incredibly nerve-wracking, but I was able to handle it when it became tough.

"So, I feel a little bit accomplished today." After a demanding week for the Australian Open winner, the outcome and her reaction are scarcely shocking.
Sabalenka has stayed out of the spotlight except from a brief statement she made on Wednesday stating that the "unthinkable tragedy" had crushed her "heart." It was also the first time the couple's breakup had been mentioned since the tragic event.
On Tuesday, the Miami-Dade Police Department verified that they had been toto a call concerning reports of a guy jumping off a balcony at a Miami resort the day before. No signs of foul play were reported by the authorities.
